F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions...

Have a question that isn't listed here?
Call or text 250-744-9462 or email [email protected]!

What are your opening hours?
We do not have pre-set operating hours.  Business is by appointment only.  Please call, text, or email to set up an appointment.  Appointments are possible early and late on weekdays, weekends, and holidays (including statutory holidays!)
There is NO extra fee for weekends or holidays.

Do you accept the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
Yes!  We are excited to participate in this new federal program!  Please CLICK HERE for more info.

Do you take insurance?
Yes!  We can process most major insurance plans via our software.  Some insurance plans require a paper receipt to be mailed in.  Any amount not covered is the patient's responsibility to pay on the day of treatment.  All fees are discussed and agreed upon before treatment is provided.

What methods of payment do you take?
We take cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, and online eTransfer.  Debit and credit cards are processed via our secure Square terminal.  Please note, minimal cash is kept on the premises for making change.

How are you handling the COVID-19 pandemic?
We have a whole webpage (click here) dedicated to answering this very important question.  If after reading, you have any further questions or concerns, please give us a call, text, or email.

Is there parking?
Yes!  You can park on the street for free on Falkland Rd.  We simply ask that you do not block any of our neighbours' driveways.

What bus routes are you near?
BC Transit Routes #1, 2, 3, and 7 pass near the clinic.  The closest major street intersection is Foul Bay @ Richardson/McNeill.

Is the clinic accessible to those with mobility issues?
Unfortunately, there are currently stairs involved in getting into the clinic.  In future we hope to relocate to a building that is fully accessible.  Please call, text, or email if you would like to discuss your particular challenges and see how we can flex to meet your needs.  Housecalls are available to those who cannot attend the clinic in person.

Your clinic is in a family home.  How does that work?
VIC247 Dental Hygiene is located at 878 Falkland Rd in Oak Bay.  When you arrive, simply ring the main front doorbell.  We will be right with you!  There is a separate room next to the clinic space where used instruments are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, packaged, and then sterilized using hospital-grade equipment (STATIM brand autoclave sterilizer).  The sterilizer itself is tested regularly using live spore cultures to ensure that it is functioning to destroy 100% of pathogens.  You are welcome to have a look at the sterilization area if you are interested.

Sterile instruments are kept in sealed medical packaging and only opened in front of you.

What type of licensing/insurance do you have?
Jennifer Worsham is a registered Dental Hygiene Practitioner with the College of Dental Hygienists of BC.  VIC247 Dental Hygiene is a licensed business within the Town of Oak Bay and also intermunicipally within Greater Victoria.  We carry business insurance as well as standard malpractice insurance.

Can I bring my dog with me?
Absolutely.  If having your furry friend nearby makes you feel more comfortable (or just as a matter of convenience) you may bring them to your appointment.  Please note: there are two cats living in the house (though they can not access the clinic area).  If you have severe allergies to cat dander you may wish to discuss this issue with us before booking.

Can I bring my baby/kids with me?
Absolutely.  We have some video games and toys available for kids right next to the treatment area.  All toys are cleaned with non-toxic high-level disinfectant between appointments (Optim-33TB brand accelerated peroxide). If you are breastfeeding, we are 100% able to accommodate/support that....  and it is easy to take breaks during cleaning if necessary to tend to your baby.

I am terrified of dental treatment and/or I am super embarrassed about the state of my teeth and/or it has been a long time since my last cleaning.  How do you handle this?
These are legitimate concerns held by many people.  Everyone is unique, and in these cases we encourage you to get in touch and discuss your particular concerns so we can make a plan to meet your needs.  However, here are some general points to keep in mind.  At VIC247 Dental Hygiene, YOU are the boss.  Nothing will ever be done or charged without your knowledge and consent.  If you say "stop" during treatment, treatment is immediately stopped.  Nothing will resume until you are ready.  This is especially true for children.  With 19 years experience in the dental field, we have seen and dealt with almost every possible oral situation.  Please do not allow embarrassment to prevent you from contacting us.  VIC247 Dental Hygiene is 100% judgement-free, and we love helping those who feel they have "fallen off the wagon" get back into accessing dental treatment with confidence.
The first step is just calling and asking your questions.  =)

Can I have a tour of the clinic before booking?
Absolutely!  It is no problem at all to book a free tour of the space.  This can be a great way to ease into treatment if you or your child are extremely nervous, or simply to get an idea of what we are all about!

Do you do presentations to classrooms and other groups?
Yes!  We offer free age-appropriate community presentations to groups of kids, classrooms, Girl Guides, community centres, and more!  Let's share knowledge regarding oral hygiene and health!  Simply get in touch.

FYI:  VIC247 Dental is an LGBTQ2+ ally and all humans are welcome and supported.
